Came across this today, and while I wouldn't accept one if they offered it to me, let alone pay for one, I think it's a good theory, and have seen it done for fruit trees and vines. Also I note that Omlet try to persuade schools to finance their products through selling egg boxes, which will be filled once the chickens start laying, which is a kind of sponsorship...and I know Farmwoody lets you book a bit of a pig when she starts to raise them.

Have many other people tried this out, does it make you much more money than just selling the finished product or is it more for marketing/getting necessary funds lined up in advance?

Have you seen it in use at other places...eg adopt a fleece and get x balls of wool in the summer? Adopt a row of strawberries?

It seems a cunning plan in some ways but is it worth the hassle?

Seems like a good idea, bit pricy for some olive oil and a few bars of soap though, £75

I think its a way of value added pre-selling. I would support it for small producers, as it takes out the uncertaintly, and presumably allows people to pay out for capital (ie the sheep, etc etc) My MIL did it for wine, and had trip a to france to see her vines, and collect her wine on a bus. Make nice xmas pressies for people who have everything they really want though (like my FIL!)

I'm going to do it with my dads beehives.
