I was just making a vegetable soup which seeing as I have put streaky bacon in it, is obviously a definite NO in Halal terms.

But how do the rules dilute as things get more and more processed?
e.g. I assume my home made chicken stock also in the soup would also be against the rules.

But animal by products are in practically evertything without a strict vegetarian label.

Well, having a vegetarian in the family we only buy stuff with a vegetarian label on it. (Sometimes very hard to find. ).

I tend to not go for any meat based stock unless I make them myself as I tend to feel the 'worst' bits of animal processing are used.

Same as TD, there's no such thing as "a little bit halal"

Yup - the rules don't dilute! When the kids were of that age, we used to know which baby milk powders/dried milks contained did not contain pork fat.

People's reading of the rules can dilute, though - pork fat in "baby milks" should have wiped out the commercial marketing of these in places like Yemen. At least in my time, it didn't

All best - Gavin
