Out of the three hens we have two are now broody, Ginger for her second time this year and Marmalade for her first. Ginger went broody twice last year as well.

We don't have room for the girls to hatch any eggs but I'm definitely getting Buff Sussex hens again when we are going to hatch eggs. They will stay broody for weeks and when thrown off the nest will quickly go to the loo, eat, drink and dust bathe before hopping back on the nest. The girls are also so tame now that they are quite happy for me to move them and stroke them while they are sitting. If anything they are getting far too comfy and I'm sure they are taking advantage of me.

Hmm, you could push something the diameter of your leg out of your rear end three days out of four, or sit in a shady nest box comfortably padded with wood shavings.

What would you do?
