I caught this by accident - it was well worth listening too although like a lot of things I think it's gone in one ear and out the other, until I read it again and go, ooh, I knew that.

What do I remember...

the Severn estuary has the third, not second biggest tidal range (or something) in the world.

don't use traditional mothballs in your clothes, they are packed with extremely nasty chemicals; lavender oil is a better alternative, as is keeping your woollens dry and wrapped up.

Ooh, ooh, yes, there was a question from someone who came across great crested newts while out riding at night, so she popped them in a bucket and moved them to a pond. The law says you may not harm, disturb, keep, sell or kill these (among other protected species), whether deliberately or recklessly; however, the conclusion on her action was that she would have been accepted to have been acting in their interests. Still something to avoid as far as possible but it's good to know that you can conceivably do something to help if it's really necessary.

If the programme is on the Beeb's listen again section, I highly recommend you do.
