I took loads of stuff to the council recycling centre today. My load included umpteen telephone directories which I put into one of those metal hexagonal type thingies. As I went upto it to put my stuff in , I could see that it was full to the brim and that there were some books at the top of the pile. My eyes quickly scanned what there was to be seen and then they lit up. I saw this little gem, which i think you'll agree was far too good to be chopped up and made into bog roll. I quickly exchanged my directories for this.

Fair exchange no robbery and it left me with that warm glow of having got something for nothing.

It's nice when something like that happens. Well spotted!

There were some cracking books that would have been better off in a charity shop rather than go through the shredder. I just liberated the one.

I was frightened of being locked up. There are signs all round the council yard saying that its illegal to liberate what are basically unwanted goods.

My local recycling centre used to sort out the good stuff & sell it for pennies (beer money for the workers I expect).
Now it's gone corporate & they aren't allowed to do it anymore.
Shame, I got garden tools, bike parts, kitchen wares, furniture, useable timber.
Thank god for freecycle.

On the day that I found the book, a guy came into the council yard with a trailer. I kid you not, when I say that it was full of cut up logs and that he placed them in the skip !

Since our Council tip became a "Recycling Centre" run by a private franchise, everything has to be checked and put into the right skip (fair enough) unless it is electrical (fair enough) or scrap metal (!) which has to be put to one side..........

Ours still does that. We've got most of our brewing gear from there.
