Has any one tried to smoke venison or tried it? I would like to try it but I'm not going to pay over £6 for 100g. I've tried venison and the closest I could describe it is a bit like beef with a hint of lamb. You don't often hear of smoked beef, but If I could get hold of a large amount of venison I would like to cure & smoke some.

I like bamby and I really want to smoke some. I think I will do so in the next month or two, as I am now at the stage of being prepared to risk more expensive meat.

I will of course be posting the results. Won't be for at least a few weeks though, as the freezer is full of smoked salmon, turkey, bacon, chicken....

Our farmers market sell vinison, in various cuts, as well as homemade pies and pasties. I think she does mail order as well with her meat. Iwill find out for you at the next one, if you like.

Alison, I'd be interested if it's not too much trouble but I would like to try and track down a local supplier and get a reasonable amount. Although I don't think the South East is the best place.
