Following the hive thefts in Shropshire last week I have just heard that the Bridgend and District association have had a hive of bees stolen---looks like with the bee shortage this year we need to be alert.

Indeed. There was an item about this on Countryfile a couple of weeks back.

Mr Howat advises beekeepers to mark or brand hives to make them more identifiable.

3 of my hives have heather honey farms branded in the sides---it's years since I bought them second hand---no proof of purchase---not looking good

At an auction last weekend in Sussex hives with bees were sold for up to £350 each. These are unheard of prices and perhaps explain the rise in thefts.

Unbelievable. Is there anything ppl won't steal?

What would you do if you caught someone in the act of nicking your hard earned hives? Can you train bees to pounce? You know - like you can a Doberman? That would teach the thieving scum now wouldn't it?

After the mood I've been in the last few weeks,if I caught anyone nicking my bees I'd mince them up and feed them to my ducks---no matter what DEFRA says.

Now Lottie... which of us is the more hormonal? You mincing bee robbers up and feeding them to your ducks or me with my Doberman type pouncing bees?

Hmmm... it's a close run thing, isn't it?
