A few weekends ago we made a wildlife pond in the garden by puddling the natural clay. I've just got around to putting a photo story on my website and I'm quite proud of it, so please take a look. www.homeonthehill.co.uk and follow the 'wildlife pond' link.
Hope you like it...Beth

Hi Beth - I've just been nosy and had a look at your website - I have to say that your pond looks good, but I am well impressed with your quilting - always something I've wanted to have a go at.

I will have to add it to my ever increasing list of things I want to do!

By the way you house looks lovely - very inviting.

Blimey, that's a big old pond! The kids look like they had a great time. Also had a look at your sewing - I'm very envious of your skill and I particularly like the advent calendar.

That is incredible Beth, it must have taken ages even with the digger, I've never seen a construction that size called a pond before though, compact lake would be nearer the mark!

Brilliant that you have done it from the existing clay, too, how is did it hold up through the few weeks without rain or was it done after/during, and what plans have you got for planting and stocking, or will you just leave it and see what happens, and have you had any ducks visit yet?!

(two other thoughts...I'm jealous of the slide...and at least when Tahir sees this he'll know what to do with all those children he keeps trying to get rid of...mobile pond puddling service ).

Great work (I'm still proud of our 4 ft frog paradise though!)

Hi Beth

Nice pond!

But... do your viewers a favour and "rightsize" the pictures - there's no need whatsoever to use a really big image (1600 pixels by 1200 pixels) for any of the pictures (hardly anyone has a screen able to do justice to them). And its a bit profligate to use that big an image even for a small button. There's some links on here to free pc software called IrfanView (on a Mac use iPhoto) to adjust the size of the piccies to the size you want them to appear on the web pages...
And there's folk here pleased to give you some pointers if you need help with those programs.

I would probably have skirted round the issue a bit more than Dougal and not used such complicated words - what on earth is dot image? - but they are taking a long time to load, it would be a pity if people didn't see all of them.

Thanks for that - I knew that, I just forgot to do it in my excitement! Yes, I'm that sad that updating my web page is exciting! Anyhow, it should be better now.

Thank you all for your kind words. Now I have to come clean and admit that it is a bit of a con. It leaks! Not too much and nothing that can't be fixed but the full pond pics were taken as we were testing it and getting it ready for a massive party.
But it will be watertight soon - and although we have no ducks we have seen a heron! But it probably won't be back as there are no fish. But frogs have already moved in. There are plans to plant it up when it is watertight, and to try and keep the kids out!

Also, thanks to those who admired my sewing - but again the advent calendar is an illusion! It's made from a kit available at most crafty/quilting shops in December. But the other stuff is all my own work.

The pond is gorgeous, and so is the orchard and kitchen garden. Very impressive!

It all looks lovely!
I'd be tempted to swim in a pond that big all the time .

Very nice, at what point does a pond become a small lake!?

I think it's when the herons move out and the boats move in.

As Bugs said its not a pond its a lake!
I've ALWAYS needed a pond and have made a temporary one out of a orange lemonade lorry side/tarp thing which is very make shift but I have loads of wildlife visit it even if it has been hit with the ugly stick!

Anyhow its really good. I think you should patent the idea of kids sliding down the edge to work in the side.
