Yeah, Nickys Nursery can be a bit like that. Otherwise, though, it's a superb place for getting seeds.

Country Living is in fact an excellent magaine, and has greatly improved over the past couple of years. They have a good variety of conservation articles etc in it, as well as organic gardening, and champion women business entreprenneurs. Some of the decorating and making features are a bit twee and not like real life, but on balance, I find a lot of it extremely useful. They do a good section on events around the country every month.

I must admit I've not read a whole issue (there's only so long I can perch in WHS for ) it for a couple of years, for the reasons you give at the end. It always seemed like the good articles are glossy introductions for people who'd never think of doing them, and the rest of it is about filling your house with bought tat. I have enough tat already But if you say so...I'm happy with Country Smallholding and Kitchen Garden these days!

By the way, you missed out the orange for the MP bit...........

And I didn't even mention the pipette

Actually, one thing I learned from Country Living (the same issue in fact - I'm fairly sure I've thrown it out though) was how to make a beautiful lavender wand for the wardrobe/doors etc. It's another one of those things that would be a pointless bit of tat if you bought it, but it's nice to make (if you grow lavender). Can do pics if "lavender wand" doesn't mean anything to anybody.

I've got the lavender wand bit upstairs somewhere, I think. They're lovely.

They are really pretty and satisfing to produce, and not too useless either. I've given a few as random presents just because I like making them...pity I often get the "oh that's pretty, but it reminds me of old ladies" response.

I'm not sure I could make it with another herb...though I suppose you could extend the concept to use a grass/straw and fill the "bottle" end with other herbs. Is there such a thing already?

I had a quick look earlier for an example and found somewhere selling them at £12.95 a go!!! Admittedly, it probably takes the best part of an hour to make one...and a few years to grow the stuff. But no nicer way to spend a July afternoon with a glass of Pimms.

Oooh. July. Pimms. Mmmmm....

Can you do me a pic of a lavender wand, please? Or point me in the direction of one?

I enormously hate doing this...but a google search will turn up trumps...there are even instructions on something like jeancharles.com for how to make it.

I see an article in the making...just to pre-empt Tahir

It looks a tiny bit like a bottle of Matteus Rose with ribbons. If you see what I mean. And more lavender. I'll do a pic of one of mine tomorrow though.

Oh, one of THOSE! I googled for "lavender wand" and the first one that came up had a good pic. https://www.divatribe.com/howto/ - they have quite a few how-to articles.

That was one of the sites I discovered today. Americans seem to have an awful lot of nice things going on. Pity we only see the rubbish stuff on tv etc...

Talking of craft on TV, does anyone who has sky remember the craft channels number. I thought it was 695, but that channel is no longer there.
