The site that Bugs recommended is an independant group. Our local craft shop uses them and they have some very good things. We got my DH the card making chest for Christmas.

Independant shops are closing fast as the big chains take the business, My family ran a craft shop for about 8 years and it was fantastic fun trying all the new products first and doing the training but we just couldnt compete on prices. Why is it the people with the most money to spend ( big chains) get bigger discounts and so lower selling prices ( and yes i know its just economics but it makes me mad we had to give up the shop!)

I agree, I always try and use someone independent if I can, and I always give them cash. I am very lucky in that we have an excellent hardware/kitchen shop, stationery/craft shop, bookshop and bakers in town, but no butchers or greengrocers. No dairy, but we do have a milkman. Can't win them all.

Self adhesive copper tape in various widths is used in soldered foil stained glass work (Tiffany lampshades and the like) and should
be available from any stained glass supplier. Try www.tempsfordstainedglass.co.uk who can supply it on mail order

I can vouch for copper tape - our hostas were untouched last year.
This year we're going to incorporate it into raised beds - splitting old 15mm water pipe with a bandsaw and nailing strips of it along the tops of the edges. I'll keep you posted as to whether or not that works.
