Right I have a problem when growing anything that needs support i.e tomatoes, peppers when I put a cane in my youngest who has special needs and an obsession with 'helping' me in the garden trails along behind me pulling them all out..I need to find a better way of supporting stuff and have been racking my rather empty brain to come up with a solution.I'd welcome any suggestions for permanent fixtures or ones I can move I know there are some clever people on here so get thinking for me please!!

The easy solution would be to plant varieties of peppers and tomatos that are bushy, and less in need of support. That ought to do the trick, but it doesn't help you if you want some nice tall tomatos.

So for the toms, I'd be tempted to rig up something higher; I've grown them with strings suspended from a washing line, for example. A little creativity and you can get away without canes if you really have to.

Thanks so much for all your help everyone. We sat down last night and tried to incorporate all the ideas into a very dodgy pic by myself not much of an artist!! We now have an area which we intend for Mikeys digging expertise or planting..,a little turf seat by the side,an area in front of that chequered(turf and slabs) for hopscotch(he loves that),then the remaining area which won't be very big we are going to create a wigwam and a tunnel to crawl thru.I think then if we fill in the bits with bark or something we wont have too much of a problem with it being walked in(my lounge leads onto the garden) as it'll be a smaller amount??My trail of thinking is then the stuff can be recycled when the boys get older into supprts for more veggies
