Just received my envelopes from RSPB............................ONLY to find they do NOT want Epson Cartridges! What is it about Epson Cartridges?

I don't know why they don't want them but I do know that ink cartridges often have a chip in them that tells the printer it is empty when there is still ink in the cartridge. The reason given for this is to protect the printer as they allege the heads may get damaged if the cartridge physically runs out of ink.

However, I notice even when my printer is set to not use the colour cartridge and I print black text only the colour cartridge appears to run down at the same time as the black. I assume this is the chip's fault.

We've got a Lexmark printer, we seem to have the same problem, tend to overdo black a lot, yet the colour cartridge 'appears' to empty and needs replacing. When we price our cartridges for a Z55 they seem higher compared to Epson - that's what you get when you buy a cheap printer - end up paying more for the cartridges.

yup. avoid Epson. without a device called a chip resetter, you cannot refill the cartridges so in most cases you are stuck on buying new ones.(which we all know is very expensive to do this everytime.)

i buy my ink from those refill places,they sell bulk ink for about $20 for 8 oz. i've refilled the cartridge of my present printer more than 20x so far. Lexmark cartridges are the easiest cartridges to refill i find as well.

We had an epson for about 6 months. What a load of rubbish!
We bought compatible cartridges which didnt work.We tried resetting the originals but the printer wouldnt accept them.We even bought new epson cartridges and they didnt work either.
We downloaded the resetting program washed out the pads under the printer ,everything...
Then I went to the shop and bought a Lexmark(we previously used one) so every printer in this house is now a lexmark and they all work even the 7 year old 1100. The cartridges cost more because they have the printhead in them .You can refill them at least 3 times(fill before they are really empty). I wouldnt go for a 3 in 1 though as when the scanner goes wrong you still have to buy another so not really space saving.

I have an Epson C62 Stylus - I bought it because I liked the shape. It's about two years old now, and has done sterling service for us - there's four of us using it constantly - committee work and papers, accounts, the childrens books and other writing, photos, knitting patterns, etc. Never had any major problem with it, and we use the compatible cartridges. If we used the Epson ones we would have to remortgage the house at the rate we use them.

Possibly, never had any at work but used acouple at home and they always spent so long bloody well initialising and the cartridges were crap too, didn't last any time at all. I've found the Canon to be much better, almost instantaneous start up and quick and quiet printing too.

I have an Epson Stylus C84. It is very good and I too use compatable cartridges..........great! But I have a pile of used ones waiting to be recycled, but nobody seems to want Epson.THAT is my problem!

Having said all that, our is out of commision as we have run out of ink for the first time ever; waiting for it to arrive.............

I would say our epson (stylus color 460) is c**p, but then it is 5 years old!! But it's never printed very well anyway...It's not gona get off that lightly!! We use the Tesco ink cartridges, they are soo much cheaper-ridiculously cheaper, in fact! I'd like one of those photo printers- my printer prints photos as a bunch of dots and lines!

I two epson printers for my work. Most professionals also will only use epson. If you use genuine epson cartridges and paper the results are unbeatable. Epson also make the best large format printers and their ink technology is the best in the industry. Having said that, for one of my printers I buy non genuine cartridges at a fraction of epson prices, but you can tell the difference.
