don't put a candle in the mini-greenhouse, it's too much of a fire hazard! i have read somewhere about heating up a brick in the oven then putting it in to help maintain the temperature above freezing, but again don't heat it up too much or you'll melt your plastic

I grow a crop of early carrots in the greenhouse, on the bottom shelf in a box. It uses the space well, and weights it down!

if you put a warm brick in, wouldn't it cause lots of condensation?

Me too! I have been trying to hold off despite the sun and being really eager to get planting! None of the plants in my garden know what they are doing with this odd weather, lots of things came into flower early with that bit of warm weather last week but the magnolia tree I've got refuses to flower. I've decided that the magnolia must know what its doing after all these years so I'm following what it does rather than my own impulses to plant stuff.

I am considering, building a concrete bunker, with copper barbed wire surround and a bear moat!!!

Had to repell molusc boarders form the greenhouse, which is stuffed to the gills with all my seedlings.....

No doubt they'd evolve wings and fly through the window or something!!!

Hope I can get the plants out in the bed soon, then I can use one years worth of eggshells and hair clipping to make their life an itchy misery!

Make that a beer moat!!!

I/m working on some chickens, I don't think SWMBO would allow me to have some bears!

I saw a large magnolia in full flower in Shropshire last weekend - it was a magnificent sight, but it did seem a tad early. If the trees don't know what they are doing, I don't think there is any hope for me!!!

It has just started snowing here, so I wonder what we are going to get today.

I rather liked the sound of the bear moat.

And bears might eat slugs. Has anyone tried this method? They would probably clear up errant foxes, pigeons and cats too

It would make for quite an adventure trying to get to the greenhouse to water the plants.
