Yep, us too from the 25th. There's some stuff in there that would make a brilliant present for the ex-hubby

I'm really quite amazed to see a hot smoker mass marketed. Makes it harder to be eccentric if stuff hits the main stream

Well, some of the items look ok and are very cheap. Has anyone been to Lidls to get the specials in the past? It says "while stocks last", is this going to be a few days or 10 minutes after they open?

I've never been to Lidl....what is the product quality like if prices are so low?...I mean, ...a salmon fly rod that is also ok with trout or char......for £30.00.....Surely it must be absolute C**P?......Or someone tell me their stuff is bargain basement.....Otherwise I'll believe otherwise.

I saw that as well MM. The thing is price is not always a good guide these days, sometimes I bought a top of the range expensive item so it will last but it breaks after a few weeks, and other times I get a cheap item for a single task and it's going strong after several years.

I often look at the advertising, and think X item is paying xzillion for advertising therefore must be cheap and nasty in reality. Sometimes there may be economies of scale that justify advertsing, but often the logic works.

I bought the lures which seem fine, I've caught mackeral on the telescopic rod before with no problems but now have proper boat rods.

The smoker is a good size, the only reason I haven't bought on is that I already have a smaller one so can't justify spending twenty quid.

Stuff looks Ok to me.

I'm interested but althought I've fished a bit when I was a nipper I don't know much. So:

Only the boat rod mentions it's for sea fishing. I would think it would be fine for pier as well as boat fishing but are the other rods only for fresh water?

Would the trout rod be reasonable for a beginner? There are a few reservoirs nearby that do trout fishing and lessons so would this rod get me by untill I decide what I want or as a back up if a good rod failed?

Do these offers come round every year?

Many thanks for any help.

i can't be certain about non food items at lidl but lidl is a mainstream store in germany and carries all the normal german brands. germany is MUCH cheaper to live in than the uk which may explain a lot of the price differences. we've always shopped at lidl whenever we can (we now live a comfortable walking distance from one so shop there regularly)

a lot of their food is better quality than even major uk brands and cheaper! the alcohol is very good, the ameretto and cherry brandy i will definately vouch for... we've had a few non food items with no problems at all so it's worth a shot!

i'm thinking i'll pick up the tackle box next week if my store gets any, it will make an excellent sewing box

But the stuff goes very very quickly here, so be prepared to miss out if you dont go early .

i've never fished that often in my life and quite frankly i tend to get bored after half an hour BUT i found that when i used a trace (or at least that's what i was told it was called) i became very enthusiastic...

the 'trace' is a fishing line with 5 hooks on it that you attach like you would just the one hook. my first try i reeled in 3 fish within 1 minute, my second time i had 5 but one wiggled free before i could reel them in! now that's what i call results!

of course it matters where and when you're fishing but i found it much more exciting when i could get a meals worth in one go

If you were buying some kit for a child, what would be good to start with.
