Ah solicitors and estate agents - dont we all just love em???????

For all this you will pay about £350 - £400 depending on where you are in the country yet most people don't bat an eyelid at paying £100 to have a £5,000 car inspected that they are thinking of buying.

Not up here you wont! We put our house on the market in the boom of 2002, loads of interest and it sold for the full asking price within 2 weeks. The guy buying it was a cash buyer having just inherited. He used a best mate who was a solicitor and was in no rush. He turned out to be a nit-picker and to cut a long story short the offer to buy our house was withdawn on the day I had the contract to exchange on our new dream home.

Despite not moving I was still charged £800 and that included a £100 plus bill for a water and sewerage search- when this came back it was a single piece of paper saying the property we were buying was connected to the mains for water and sewerage - talk about stating the obvious - this house was on an estate built in the early 1970's!

As far as I am concerned solicitors and estate agents are a necessary evil but if you can find a good one - good luck to you !
