3 lovelly little exmoor horn x lambs now in situ having just had their first feed of goats milk. all ewe lambs and double tagged, had colostrum, treatment for wet mouth, ringed and 4 days old. Our three old ewes were facinated by them and came running over to the fence to say hallo.

They had to be tagged with their holding of birth before they came to us. Would rather not have done but no choice - its the rules apparently when Ichecked with trading standards animal movements in exeter and with Ritchie tags head office

Ah, I understand now. Yes, legally necessary but undesirable IMO.
Hope they come on well - and we definitely need pictures while they're still cute !

totally agree sheepshed. unfortunatley it meant that each also had to be given .5ml of penicillin to guard against possible infection. Its a great shame that those that make the rules don't put the welfare of the animal first. Somtimes I wonder if they have actually even met a live animal. I know that one of our neighbours who is organically registered has their inspections regularly and not once have these people wanted to inspect the animals in five years - only the paperwork. Our own lambs we don't tag until the last possible moment.
