very thomas hardy to get to admire horse tack and buy new wives at the same show

re the split spoon , timber is like that sometimes it looks fine and then it isnt when you look inside for the thing you want

in the building game i have picked decent looking strait timber that has one and a half twists and several bends a week later.

working with green wood can be even more unpredictable

stones are even worse for not breaking where they should.
jet is dreadful to know if the last cut is going to be fatal to the piece, i have had a few go that way.

Ty Gwyn, are the marriage mart ladies superseded over the horse image or does it appear as a banner? If the first situation there's not much to do, if the latter it could perhaps be cut away with a photo image program.

This weekend is the Garden State Sheep Breeders Association sheep and fiber show. Lots of sheep, breed shows, etc in one barn, plus two barns of vendors selling fleece, yarn, etc. People demonstrating weaving and spinning, demonstrations of shearing, and a very good sheep dog herding demonstration. No alpacas or angora goats this year but the people selling angora had a few rabbits.

I went yesterday because this afternoon there is a Tea and Toddies event at the Bouman Stickney museum, with beer brewing demo outside and the tea presentation in the downstairs kitchen with the walk-in hearth.

Deer hunting season opens next Saturday, and the two bow hunters who will hunt our property are coming over this morning to walk the land.

It is a banner on the top of the photo, one side is the Asian ladies and the other a photo of drastic weight loss removing fat,

I wouldn't know how to use a photo image to cut it off,i presume this farmer from the South East must have had these on his phone when he took the photo, lol.

Its a photo of a pair of Clydesdales tacked up,is there someone techy that could cut the banner off if I sent it them?

if you use a modern browser and/or windows a right click gives the option to screen shot , it probably has scissors by it.

click on it then select the crop option rather than entire page.

mouse the box to just get the horses in the lit up bit

save it , turn it into a jpeg and post it.

it should be that easy

Your shows sound good Jam Lady. We don't have as many sheep dog trials here as we used to because the sheep still need a movement license after the last foot and mouth outbreak, which can make things tricky. We used to have them attached to the show up the road from us, but they would have to bring in the sheep, as those on the hill there are used to dogs, so don't behave as they should. They used them one year and several of the dogs had nervous breakdowns, so never again.

It wasn't a trial, Mistress Rose, just demonstrations a couple of times each day so the punters can watch and be entertained. Once again, or should I say, as always, here's a link to the entry on my web site:

Nothing happens with a right click on the link to the photo I was sent.

To be honest Theo,i`ve never done any of that,as far as I know a farmer took a photo at the ploughing match and posted it on the farming forum,i asked if he minded me shareing it,and said I could, but it wouldn't copy and paste to here, then one of the Mods gave me a link to the farmers album, and that`s when the Asian ladies appeared along with the herbal Viagra pills, lol, one couldn't make this up.

Some funny things happen in these country places.

I read the blog Jam Lady. Very interesting. In the UK we tend to have sheep dog trials where the dogs and handlers compete against each other. Sometimes these are part of a country show, sometimes stand alone events, but if we have a fibre fair, that is often inside and not associated with sheep.

I have a fleece that I really must skirt before the end of summer, then I can sort it and see about spinning it. Not sure what I will use it for as I don't know how soft it is, but suspect it could be fairly coarse as it has some Herdwick in it. I will have to see. At least it will take up less room as spun yarn than a fleece.

Spent part of yesterday trying to draw up a template for son to make notebook covers. I failed, but will try again today with a rather better propelling pencil as the one I had was rather soft and wide.

Ah, Herdwick sheep. Let's hear it for Beatrix Potter.

The event never seems to have a problem finding someone to demonstrate dogs herding sheep so they are out there. But it is not something you see as you drive around. I think it is more of a "let's entertain the visitors" kind of thing. Show the children the sheep, demonstrate shearing, show sheep herding - good time had by all.

Sunday's event was also interesting, informative, and entertaining. The man demonstrating 18th century beer brewing at home is clearly expert

and the two ladies talking about switchel, shrubs, rum punch and more are also expert in their period and with wonderful accessories displayed.

rural life
it might be wise to leave the snap where it is,

next time take the snaps, even a basic phone has a fairly useable camera these days

the interweb can be a bit awkward at times, the worst thing that i ever found in a photo was a worm embedded in a photo of an " angry monkey" it was a chimp but that was not the issue.
the instant i opened the thing my machine started sneezing and it was near death in 30 seconds.
i put it into an induced coma and then three days in intensive care made it better again.
it would have been easier to trash the drive and get a new un but the thing was lurking in the firmware as well as on the disk so it would have been trash the machine which i was fond of.
adverts can be avoided if you add adblockers and anti trackers to your browser, that can also make screenshots etc easier as well.

i do not see adverts unless they are embedded in the text so i spose i am quite ignorant of the range or ubiquity of them.

i know almost nowt about pooters but over decades of wanting them to do something i have picked up a few tricks.
if an image is on line there is always a way to crop and take it.

take a photo of the screen and edit that is old school but effective:wink:

thinking of sheep i have another use for them, wool pellets/claggy bits are ace at forming a slimey hoard barrier if spread on the soil as a mulch around the plant.

alive , somebody else's problem, in bits excellent

I have a place to go to in Ironbridge, and have booked the 2 nights. We are meeting on the Tuesday and going a tour round the area, then hope to get to a pub for a meal and pint or 2. Neither of us have our student days capacity for drinking now. We will go to Acton Scott on Wednesday and a look round Ludlow and the area and on Thursday I will go home and Mate is off to a northern England/Scottish uni for a medical reunion of his friends from B'ham uni medical school of 50 years ago, who are well enough deposited up there to make it a worth-while trip.

I have just remembered I have missed the Kington show. I will have to wait till next year to see an old friend there! Lucky my head is screwed down tightly!

Sounds as if you should have a good time Gregotyn. Blists Hill at Ironbridge and several of the other places there are worth while visiting, but sounds as if you have enough to keep you busy already. Perhaps we should visit again some time and take in Acton Scott and Ludlow.

Looks as if it was a generally good history weekend Jam Lady. Working dogs with sheep dogs is still done quite a lot in the UK, so the sort of thing you can see in some country areas. We stayed at a farm once where the father was rounding up the sheep with a dog, and he had a loud voice, and his daughter had to apologise for his language when the dog or sheep didn't do what he wanted.

I am thinking or using the skirtings from the fleece in the compost heap as they will rot down well.
