I think I have two seedlings (from seed) coming up to 2 years old. They were very slow to germinate and don't look how I expected. Sort of reddish leaves along long branches I am hoping they are not capers. They seem to be fairly tough but slow growing. They are around 2 inches high but have long trailing floppy branches around 6 inches long. At this rate I will die of old age before I see any fruit. I can get pics if you are interested.

I've bought plants and had to replace them, the original ones were attacked by slugs which stripped all the bark off. I wrapped the stems of the second set in that foam insulation tubing that is sold to frostproof water pipes and one of the two has survived and is doing well. Just replanted the other.

Interesting: mine arrived with some minor bark damage. Hopefully it will recover.

I was looking at zanthoxylum schinifolium, but would go for the variety that thrived
