Sweet peas are finally showing, and dahlias, but everything else is still sulking

The worst plant I have ever had was Fat Baby Acocha. It took over the entire greenhouse and took about 5 hours to eventually extricate the damn thing.

Same here. You have to pick the things when they're small - and they were so prolific and fast growing that by the time I'd got to the end of the vine the ones at the beginning had grown into monsters. It was like trying to paint the Forth Bridge twice a day. They weren't particularly tasty either.

I like to start my tomatoes and Peppers quite early. Living in Kent the warm climate means that I can generally get them out quite early, not to mention the benefits of a good ole Urban Heat island...

Every year I try to plan around the 26th of January. This year I started them on the 29th. It's now the 15th of march and my tomatoes are nearly 10" tall... They are growing faster than usual. The chillis are doing much the same rate as usual.

Am going to pot them onto larger pots in the coming days.

The big problem I'm going to hit soon is running out of space on the window sills... I want to start off a couple of trays of beetroot and brassicas in the next week too... If I can't start to get thing outside by April, I'm going to not have enough space for the pumpkins and beans...

On the plus side, the lettuce I started at the same time is ready for harvest, yay for cut and come again.

last year the things that did best went in rather late but i do have a problem with a north west aspect and building shade that means the few sunny spots are only sunny from late may til late sept.
i will work with that and hold off on plants or seeds for a while.

unless i build a platform in a sunny place ,a very tempting idea but a bit off the wall ,literally.

We have kicked into gear in the last week, loads of seeds planted and raised beds weeded.
Trying a new thing this year and using collapsible plastic crates that allow drainage, are a nice depth and have handles.
We also have another greenhouse on order
This is the third year we have been here now, and I'm determined this year we will be a lot more successful.

I planted chilli and tomato seeds last week (a bit later than planned!), and I already have a shoot. I think I'll wait until April to plant most of the other veg since I live in Scotland.

I think half the battle is finding the seeds that work for the conditions you have. I found Real Seed Co. to be quite useful for this & there are some varieties that do much better for me than others.

Neighbour over the road gave us two dozen peas that he'd soaked ready...I think it is a sort of hint!!
Just sown them now, and it is raining
