It depends on the variety and how you like to eat it, but I usually keep russets for quite a while as I prefer them slightly softer. Husband likes his apple slightly underripe if anything, and son prefers his ripe, so get used in most suitable state for various family members.

Just fighting the dogs for the last unpicked Red Windsors for breakfast. Red Alkemene is still hanging on and will be good to eat for a week or so. Windsor is such a convenient variety, tasting good from August to November
