Have recently bought an air rifle which I am practicing with so that I can soon feel confident about putting something in the pot.

I've made a pellet catcher but now need to dispose of the pellets. I am guessing that they are made of lead and so how should I be disposing of them? I feel uncomfortable putting them in my bin for landfill. Can they be recycled? What do other downsizers do?

I collect mine and I'll take them along to the rifle club I belong to as they sell all their scrap lead. Otherwise I'd take them along to our local tip and put them into the metal skip unless they had a specific area for lead.

Do you fish or know anyone that fishes? They can make some cheap weights.

Or diving clubs make their own weights (or used to). Mind you, you'd need a lot of pellets.

I could turn them into bullets for black powder pistol shooting. We fire them into a sand back stop (on their way through a paper target) and evey year recover the lead which is sold for scrap or reused.

If you want to dispose of any small amounts of lead and are coming to the downsizer meet I'd be interested.

Reuse lead please.

Oh know you can't Richard. Its been made illegal to use small lead fishing weights because of the threat to swans and other waterfowl, who dredge them up off the bottom of lakes and rivers as they are feeding.

Dint mean the small ones. Was thinking about the larger weights.
