I am truly battling to find a tomato seed that produces a tasty tomato. I have tried a great many varieties and whilst they have been good croppers, they have been bland. The only real success has been Galina Early Cherry tomato (vine) - a yellow cherry tomato that is absolutely delicious.

Some of the othert varieties I have tried that have ended up to be bland:

Amish paste
Tonadose De Conores
Purple Calabash
St. Pierre
Gardeners Delight

I am looking for a red cherry plus a medium/large tomato seed for this year. Any suggestions?

I have added galina to my expanding list My own favourite is tigerella, lovely slightly sharp taste. We also grow Shirley as a good flavoursome allrounder.

I need recommendations for cucumbers if anyone can help, last years large cucumbers (telegraph) were just ok

I'll add Shirley and Tigerella to my list.

I'm afraid I have no suggestions for cucumbers as I seem to get that wrong each year too! They either end up too thick skinned or bland. We did a mini white cucumber and that was bitter - yuk.

I don't like them raw, but tigerella is himself's favourite of all the ones I've grown.

How are you growing them?
IMHO the best tomatoes are grown in manure rich soil & fed organically.

I grow them in garden compost (loads of chicken poo etc in it) in the greenhouse. They get fed every 2 weeks.

Amish paste is a cooking tomato, so you won't get the same 'eating taste' from it.

The best tomato to grow for taste is Red Brandywine - go for the Suduth strain if you can get it, it really is the best one. Some American companies will post overseas, but a lot won't. Red Brandywine is available from quite a few places in the Uk though. I've grown the pink and yellow ones too, but nowhere near as good as the red.

Other than that, the heritage varieties have the best taste -.
Recommend:

Costeluto Fiorentino
Cherokee Purple
Ananas - like a pineapple sort of taste, but very much a good tomato
Bloody Butcher (excellent)
Mortgage Lifter
Sub Arctic Plenty

Yep..how you grow them can make big difference to the flavour..its not all in the variety.
If grown too 'lush' with loads of water and nitrogen rich fertilizer, you may find you tomatoes bit bland and 'woolly'.
I like bloody butcher too.
Sun Belle is my all time favourite..it doesn't get out of GH into house unless in my belly..
Black cherry and Nebraska Wedding and Chocolate stripes being some other favourites.
There is not that many varieties that I don't like...home grown are sooo nice..

For a medium gold tomato you could try Auriga from Simpsons Seeds. We think they are really tasty.

Black cherry (ok, it's not red) is one of my favourites too.
Gardener's Delight I like as well; I do recall Bob Flowerdew talking about some tortured, blighted tomatoes being the tastiest he'd ever eaten and having mostly grown ours on poor chalky soil I wonder if yours have been spoilt?!

Another favourite of mine for flavour is Brooks Special; I had it from the HSL but I think you may be able to get it or something similar from Plants of Distinction.

I've just bought a cherry tomato mix from Pennard Plants - for 1.50 you could have a try of quite a few varieties, pop a bit of wool around the ones you like, and you'll have your own favourite for next year?

We find very good flavor in all the brandywine and cherokee varieties. but especially love a striped variety called Pineapple. Tried Black cheery for the first time last year and was very pleased with results.
