...and our old friend Ivy Watts, IxV=W. But the bulb should say what the W and V requiremnts are and I would expect the torch head only to be able to cope with a certain amount of heat from the bulb.

Have you tried asking Maplins?

No I haven't, I think the model I purchased is underbulbed (a word you don't hear every day!)

The same design is also sold with a 12 v system and a higher wattage bulb, can't see why they would produce two different models that looked the same, but used completely diffent parts.

So I'm thinking I have the Mk1 Escort 1100, and am turning it into a Bubble arched RS1600

IIRC Power = V2/R, therefore for a given resistance if you halve the voltage you get a quarter the power or in this case you are back to 5W, though this doesnt take into account the internal resistance of the battery.

There's supposed to be a site called candlepower.forums which could answer all your questions ...... but I can't access it from this computer (work one)

So, all in all, not a lot of help

Looked @ that site.

Very in depth, unfortunately far too technical for the likes of me...

Do not want to turn my mini maglite into a laser night sight!!!

Although now you mention it

However what I do need to do is tone down my other lamp... 1 million candlepower.

Somehow I would like to fit some sort of dimmer switch (don't want to pay £30 for one of the hunting ones). Looked @ RS & Maplin and got very confused.
Web search only brought up desk lamps!!!
I'm right in that a 12v dimmer would be OK on a 6v set-up....
Where would I get one from.... I'm sure someone with a 12v lighting set-up in their house would know....caravans perhaps....
Could have just answer my own question...
I'll be back...

I was thinking more of modifying an airsoft minigun to .22 and then putting it in the back of the Micra

However, I got nowhere with my hunt for a 6v dimmer....

Last try...would the dashboard dimmer switch from a car work....or am I likely to blow that up running such a big bulb

Pete
