Our first goose has developed an attitude problem....

I got three others because I thought having company might calm her down, & take her mind off attacking GF, the dog, & the watering can (?)

How wrong can a person be ?

Is the only solution her becoming the Sunday roast ?

If she is older than a year I wouldnt bother. Advertise her for sale as a guard goose.

There is an alternative for older geese. Cure the breasts and confit the legs and wings.

I bought her in April (I think) as a "6 week old"

I shall be sorry if she goes, but she has become aggressive very suddenly, & that has taken us by surprise

They all start off sweet and then mostly end up as hissy flapping beasties. You just have to face them down.

GF has to carry a broom each time she leaves the house, otherwise things can degenerate very quickly

One of mine tried that with me. I picked her up and dumped her in the stream to cool here temper. She never did it again. Picking them up and carrying them also tends to embarrass them. Yes, I know it's not easy to do that with an aggressive goose... been there.. done that... but, once you have the upper hand, a filthy look will suffice to put them in their place.

I will give that a go...don't think GF would manage as the goose is almost the same height

Your GF is going to have to stand up to them if she wants them to respect her.

Mine have learnt that seeing me usually results in a nice tasty treat, piece of apple, or something equally irresistable to a goose. I can happily walk amongst my gaggle of 14 without fear of anything more than them running to see if there is anything left in the bucket. I find they usually get reactive when they are scared...maybe she is unwittingly doing something that they see as a threat. Most of mine are new to me, so not raised by me and they have all come round to the same view thankfully.

She was fine until about 10 days ago when goose stopped following her around nicely & started trying bite her

I think goose sees me as the boss now, as I was working away a lot & didn't have much contact....she will feed from my hand with no trouble at all, but is still wary of me when I'm outside

Sort of...she doesn't try & fight quite so much, but she keeps herself to herself a lot of the time....but things do seem to have calmed down a bit

GF even went outside without the broom

She probably just needed time to settle down with the rest of the beasties.
