Exactly as it says. Does anyone have any recommendations for these machines? I've got tired of climbing up a ladder, down a ladder, move one step, up a ladder down a ladder, move one step, up a ladder down a ladder, move one step etc. so I want a new toy (actually Mrs JB said I should buy one)

not a recommendation as such more of a avoid

the multi head ones tend to be flimsy

make sure it has all the proper paperwork and marks for the safety stuff cos there are a lot of well dodgy imports

handle the thing before buying cos some have a very odd balance

Not so flimsy that it isn't (usually) outweighed by the advantages of multiple heads, but maybe depends upon what you want it for.

Get one that you can adjust the angle of the head: I usually use mine one notch off straight, to be straight you've got to actually be in the hedge.

I echo the comment to make sure you try it on - weight and balance are very personal choices.

I would expect a £99 screwfix/B&Q multi-head to be flimsy/disposable. Yes avoid.
I wouldn't expect a £500-£600 Stihl to be flimsy.

If you can afford it, it's got to be Stihl.
You'll be able to get spares in ten years time and it will allways have a resale value.
I wish I'd bought mine years ago.
Absolute doddle to start and like any other Stihl kit you can rely on it to start even after months of storage.
And it's not just good for tall hedges - I now use it (long reach) as my default trimmer. Cos it's on shoulder strap it's less effort on arms. Cos it's long you also do less trampling of other plants.
