Badger gates - anybody any experiences as to whether they work or not. And do rabbits get through them?

We have installed several and the do work fairly well. Some badgers still prefer to go under them, but we didn't find rabbits got through. They are too heavy for a rabbit. These were the proper metal ones from Tornado, not home made ones.

Best way of working them is to put them in and leave chocolate covered raisins or other bait both sides. The badgers will go for them and use the gate.

After spending a fortune last winter ring fencing my orchard. Its taken the badgers nearly a year to get in. I suppose its because of all the fallen fruit they are after.

But the taught line wires have all been stretched with the badgers snouts, so I have to re tighten the lines wires.

I like badgers but not rabbits. I am amazed at the quantity of rabbits caught in a single cage trap over the year.

I am thinking of buy the galvanized versions, but buying 2 is bit dear, one for into the orchard and one for out.

You can make your own with a frame and a heavy wooden door. It might not be quite as effective, but should work.
