Husband and son found a slow worm in the bottom of a pile of wood that has been left for a while. We also sometimes find toads in the woods, although they have a fair journey to the nearest water to breed.

We were at a show yesterday that stretched into the evening and a hare somehow decided, in spite of all the people around, to come out onto the site. Think it finally decided it was a bad idea, as of course several people were chasing it, but odd it should come out there.

Quite possibly. There are probably quite a lot of hares in the area. We are not far away and get them in the woods.

I put a shelf on top of the bird feeder, so that I could put food out for the birds that cannot hang onto the feeders. This, I have found has made the sparrows weary and they have not been around for a couple of days. Will they get used to it being there and will they be back?

On a positive note though, a robin has been around. Do the vast quantity of sparrows that are normally there put other birds off do you think?

a robin needs to be diplomatic to be tolerated by a sparrow tribe on a feeding station

some do it, some get pitchforks and torches

Thanks. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the sparrows to return to my now pimped up feeding station.

One of our robins learnt how to hang on a feeder and taught others. It took a little while, but they all learnt in the end.

probably getting ready for winter in new pairs, and in new locations(it seems plausible the old nests are a necropolis best avoided)

Was working in the 'yard' yesterday and got buzzed by the robin. It was also pestering for food. There were several squirrels about picking up nuts too.

I think we have a fox in our garden although I haven't seen it. I have a large sink tidy outside the back door into which I empty the peelings and things to take down to the compost heap and it has been knocked over and scrabbled through again. Most likely fox.
