Great idea DPack, I'll be doing that when I get home. Thanks.

i have a new dik

it came, it skated, i heated water and filled the big flat bowl

a clever one, i will try taming it

queenie hand feeds, she is a bit possessive even with her new favourite

that pair would be easy to convert to stock doves or messengers, the latter has some merit but it seems rather mean to displace one while we have posties and email
tis rather secure though, hard encryption and physical transfer by pigeon post does have promise in a belt and braces way

liquid water seems very popular with the sparrows and pigeons, it did not take long for them to notice

umm there is one less pigeon

birdtown was happy doing mixed species bird stuff, queenie was at my hand feeding

in a fraction of a second a pigeon was grabbed from the air at waist ht 3 m from us
grin was gone with lunch before most of us reacted

not even a feather or blood spot as evidence

that was really fast, privilege to experience that but rather disturbing for all of us

i will try to work out if i knew the victim, it might have been flash

for grin to hit the target like that in an urban canyon shows awesome abilities

they are feeding again but they are well jumpy

The peregrine we have seems to come in from on high and although it hits the pigeon it sometimes drops it. Have had several of his leavings if they are not badly damaged. Otherwise they go in the compost.

Birds can be very tame at this time of year, even if not at others.

the circle of life as they said at disney (although frozen might be hint that walt did not believe that )

i name them to try to keep track of behaviours, breeding units etc, much like domesticated critters and assorted wildlife populations are named by their people

once i can tell them from the crowd they get a name, if a named one eats another named one that is not a tragedy. i can eat most things with names, a few get named with that in mind, ms bacon was delicious

habitat destruction, extreme events etc that could be avoided are rather annoying

a few interact in ways they do not usually do with humans

i popped out for a few mins

it wasn't flash he is fine, it was an unnamed one with similar feathers that was taken

queenie had a handful of food

having favourites does seem to help with the others accepting a near human

We are just back from rural Conwall. Lots of birds about, but unable to identify as they were mainly just small ones in the car headlights. Went to Helegan yesterday just as the rooks were roosting; they have a lot of rooks, and they have a lot to say for themselves.

wildlife is rather amusing

"worms" are all around us, and we are all around "worms"

the single cells and the why bother with being a cell if i can borrow bits of that one and live forever stuff is deeply embedded in the dirty seawater bags with legs

a human is as much of an ecosystem as a planet

merry christmas, sleep well, dont scratch

thor has left the quayside

nice bit of his story, NYE is off thor needs a rest is unusually sensible

splendid beast, it took bob a week to convince me she was "safe" and i got as far as wading with her but S swam with her while i considered that lion may be the relevant bit of sealion

we shared a beach for 3 weeks and the water for two

sealions are ok, possibly, based on one nice one(get bitten, it aint my fault), seals are family, i guess the big toothy ones are probably ok unless you try to sell them wrinkle cream or suggest bread and butter to go with the oysters

nice to find a happy part of a story in the news media

it might not be happy, thor is a rare visitor, why was it far from its usual home? why has it been so far south before it got here?

apparently bob might have gone fishing near africa and got into a fish filled current heading for kernow, plenty food , no rest til portheras. no harm done, local wildlife lore suggested that every decade or so one would pitch up there for a holiday after an adventurous fishing trip and then set off to home or oblivion at sea

HNY scabby, well done

I only heard about Thor on the news last night. He looked quite chilled.

Mrs C was very excited when I told her he'd first appeared down in Calshot.

Didn't realise that. Seems he is doing a tour of the eastern side of Britain then.
