How do you get a ° or an ë or even a ç?

If you don't have the symbol on the keyboard an easy way for windows users is to open the character map and copy one from that. (In XP to open Character Map, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Character Map.)

If you use them frequently, work out the four character decimal code (use the windows calculator to convert the hex code shown in the character map to decimal, for example ° is hex B0 or dec 0176) and simply hold down the ALT key and type 0176 using the numeric keypad!
