My Kune Kune sow has been ill since last Tues/Wed (a week ago) and I am running out of ideas. She first started off by being really slow, wanting to lie down a lot and not wanting to each much. She had a temperature too. She was given a course of six antibiotics which brought the temperature down but hasn't helped in the appetite or standing department. She then had an anti-inflammatory injection in case it was her joints that were inflamed making her not want to stand. This hasn't helped either. She will eat but not much and I usually have to hand feed her to make her eat. She now has the runs (not scouring just runny poo) which I think could be because she was only eating apples for a few days and nothing else but I am not sure.

Basically I am running out of ideas and I don't think my vet knows what the problem is. The farmer next door who used to farm pigs reckons she has a stomach infection which is why she isn't eating as much and is off her legs because she hasn't got as much strength to stand up because she isn't eating as much. He recommended coal dust and raspberry leaves, both of which I gave her last night but it hasn't really helped.

Does anyone have any ideas or help or advice they can give me? I am getting desperate and if she doesn't pick up soon I might have to be in the horrible position of making that awful decision ........

We had a sow recently went off her food shortly after farrowing, she was down most of the time & wouldn't eat. We gave her a couple of days to clear her system out, then built up her strength drinking milk & eating apples, until she was gradually back on the normal feeding after a week of this diet.
