Isn't that typical I have never seen Rachels milk here and we live right next to the farm! I will go and have another look.

We get manor farm from the box schem, but save the cartons, sarah - there was a note that they won't be able to supply them in cartons soon (something to do with the cost of outsourcing the packaging) It's only temporay though, and the plastic bottles make very good soup freezing, sccops and storing all sorts of things which don't fit in coffee jars (porridge oats, and salt and other stuff)

Waitrose do Moo! organic milk, which is UHT UK produced - might be worth looking into for anyone who can't get fresh (I keep it in full cream for custard!)

i had the same dilemma, do i buy local or organic???
i soon found that a large percentage of local is organis anyway so i decided to reduce food miles before tackling the world pesticide addiction.

Local for me, glass bottles from Pat Mustard the milkman.

Cows are one of the more extensive breeds, so it's not something I worry about too much. Save your cash for organic pork & chicken.

I think I must be very lucky been in Wales ... in all the shops and supermarkets there is always welsh milk ( produced and processed in wales) and I know that the milk I buy in Cardiff (if welsh milk) is from below the mid wales line, due to the influence of the welsh assembly people ....and my uncle

i now buy organic milk from the dreaded tesco

i buy it because i do not wish to contribute to the intensive method of milk production that also contributes to the live transportation of day old calves to the continent

i also try and buy organic butter and cheese for the same reason

i can't say if it comes from the continent or not though i read that Yeo valley do send some of their milk to that supermarket and i hope that it finds my way to my fridge

if i could find a more local source of organic milk i would use it but there doesn't seem to be one though we do have the marybelle dairie conglomerate for locally produced milk

We go with local and are lucky to have it delivered to the doorstep in "proper" glass milk bottles from a farm up the road.

I always go for local over organic, and the semi-skimmed milk we get is richer-tasting and creamier than any full-fat milk we've ever had. My partner (who was possibly a humphrey in a previous life ) will even drink the semi-skimmed straight from the bottle, a pint at a time -- something he'd never do with any other semi-skimmed.

I know we're lucky to have this option, but do go for it when it's available, I'd say...

Very interesting topic.

I'm very late contirbuting but still thought I'd join in.

Having tasted supermarket organic there's no way we ever want o have supermarket nonorganic evey again.

I do somethimes buy local non-homogenised but I have 2 problems with it.

1. it goes off very fast
and 2. it retails at 99p for 2 pints. We use about 6 pints a week and I find it hard to spend that amount on milk.
But I feel that I am wrong and stingey thinking like this.
But I can't help thinking I am paying a premium to make up for the disgraceful price supermarkets pays milk producers...

Also, I'll admit I prefer the taste of organic to local!

So now I compromise: I buy local but also buy yeo Valley as my understanding is that it is fairer to farmers - at least i think so and hope so!

You may be able to get Calon Wen Welsh organic milk from supermarkets - I know some Tesco's sell it.

Local non-homogenised, delivered 3 times a wk. costs more but comes in glass bottles.

fat milk has proper cream on the top, semi skimmed is nice.

I read somewhere that homogenised milk is not good for you, but I can't remember why, anyone know?

I really envy you!!!

Amazingly, in South east Kent, I have not been able to find anything like this!
