i have three hens all from the same batch, they are over 2 and are cross rhode isl and something else? (black and red)
all getting fat as i fed them high energy bird seed over the winter ( felt sorry for them in the snow!) now only one is back laying and the other two although on peletts for a month havent laid... help? please

I'd suggest checking how much laying feed they need and if you give them a little corn make sure you weigh it out and don't give them any more. Hens will survive very well on layers pellets as their only food. If you want to treat them then some green stuff or a little fruit.

It may sound harsh but hens can have quite a few weight related problems apparently. I do know how much hens can look sorry and beg for food as our three often do even when they can hardly lift their crops off the floor.

They may well then come back into lay, very after a very long break.
