Where and how can they be caught?

Doubt if you will find one on the low tide line at the beach - normally caught by trawlers around here.

They are being caught in reasonable numbers by fishermen from Brighton Marina at the mo, if fact, next weekend is the 2nd Uk open squid fishing competition at the marina, unfortunately can't go this year.

An idea of size

www.fishyrob.co.uk and go to diary and the last few posts in April this year.

They are a fab tasting meal when really fresh, and sustainable too!

Competition has been moved to 3rd May at Brighton marina, all proceeds to RNLI

I'm hoping to go now and see how many I can catch (or blag of anyone who doesn't want theirs!)

Should also be the chance of some fine mackerel & garfish to fill the coolbox too.

Well, the squid competition was held on Sunday, but the conditions were not so good, the water was a little coloured. I did manage to catch a cuttlefish (a first for me) and it turned out to be the only cephalopod of the day, so I kind of won!

Report is at this site if you click on diary & click on May

https://www.fishyrob.co.uk/index3-2.htm

The cuttle was about 2.5lb and once cleaned & de-boned (cuttle anatomy lesson was fun) it made a great stir fry for 2 and a fab mushroom & cuttle risotto for 2 as well. well worth the trip & I'll be after them again.
