Having been inspired by the article on here about covering a footstool,
I would like a basic beginners book showing the various techniques (and maybe some sample patterns?) that can be used when making rag rugs. Any recommendations? I've had a look on ebay and on Amazon, but the choice is a bit overwhelming, so would rather go on personal recommendations. Thanks in advance,

cheers
boo

have you tried the library? the might have a selection you could browse (mine didn't have any useful ones, so if you find one, do let me know. It seems to be something that needs pictures - I can't figure out what they mean from the text!)

I was at our local (little) library on Monday, saw a really interesting book on rug making - it covered hooky, braided and other types of mats. If I can I will go back and see if I can get a title and info for you. I cannot say I know much about rug making - well apart from making a *kit rug* many years ago, but the book I saw seemed to have clear instructions.

Will probably be the weekend before I can get to check on it.

We only have a tiny little mobile library that stops off for 20mins once a week in our village, so I haven't had chance to search its innards for any rag-rug books - but I'm not hopeful! Will have to make a point of getting into the main library whenever I'm next in town.

Gertie - please don't put yourself out, but I'd grateful if you could make a note of the title. I would have thought that for practical projects like rugmaking that really clear step-by-step pictures would have been essential, but it doesn't seem that way from the few books I have seen.

thanks,
boo

Any books by Ann Davis would be a good start. She is a leading rag rugger and displays, teaches write etc.
It is easy to do and grows quite quickley.

Most libraries allow you to search catalogues online and also make resevations, maybe the moblie library could bring it to you!!

The book was called Making Rag Rugs by Clare Hubbard. Forgot to get any other information - had a quick look and they have it on Amazon.com.

Thanks Gertie, I'll pop it on my Yule pressie list and bat my eyelashes at the other half.

For the time being I'll have to content myself with one called 'Rag Rugs' by Ann Davies which I've just been able to pick up cheap as chips through ebay. Also got 'Basket Making' by Olivia Elton Barrett from the same seller, so I guess some crafty lady was having a clearout.

Expect lots of rag rug and/or basketry type questions before the weeks out... lol
