Well, we could be more efficient. It always saddens me that we don't eat more pigeon and rabbit as it's win win. Free range, free from chemicals and a pest that plagues the farmer.

Pesticides/fertilizers - would the use of these increase?
Vermin - obvious really
C02 - transport, harvesting and so on
Shelf life - more chemicals?

Got six at homebase today. BOGOF and it's £1.99, so a quid each on their low energy bulbs. Not bad,eh?

Or grow a lettuce in a pot and pick off a leaf now and then to stuff in your sandwich?
