Were you feeding them a lot of corn? That does put fat on quickly. Otherwise I would say that 5 - 6 months is about the right time. Much earlier and there is no meat on them.

Today we slaughtered a couple of our Light Sussex which were approx. 6 months old, once plucked we realised how much fat they had on them
My query is now at what age its best to slaughter ... |

Might just be that they are from a non-broody strain.
In favour of pekins, despite their furry-footedness (*glares at Sean*), they are very self-contained little birds and if it's too wet or snowy, ... |

I haven't got the Bantam size as all are mine are LF. I have the following LF breeds:

Depends on the strain as well. I think Bodger's strain of light sussex are good broodies - he's in North-ish Wales. I expect he'll be along shortly.
