I think for resist dyeing, the rice starch is supposed to wash out of the fabric better than the wehat, but I havent tried either yet

Unfortunately I've experienced this on several occasions with cut-price wool. If I make anything with yarn from Lidl or Aldi, I always gently hand wash it.
