There are SO many British native birds here..heard and saw a yellowhammer today, and sparrows, blackbirds, thrushes, starlings, goldfinches and chaffinches among others are common.

to stop weed seeds germinating or landing, to feed the soil(mulch) and also carbon release to the atmosphere caused by digging...read upon permaculture?

I think it depends on the rainfall you have and general temperature.
I've always had a lid and a cover, usually old carpet/underlay to stop the heap getting sodden and to keep the heat in.

I've just had a thought re quince juice...it could be possible but might need pectolaze adding, as it sets very well...you could end up
