It is the same with any fruit picked too early in order to travel..it never develops the proper flavour

That's a Silver Y (Autographa gamma) gz. Mainly a migrant species, but the ones that arrive in spring may breed, and be reinforced by an autumn wave of incomers. So uncertain which category this fall ...

I've dried strawberries so far, not enough pears to do and waiting on the apples for drying and juice.

But now the downside...daughter has two wasps' nests in her lawn....and two intrepid 9 year old gardeners intent on poking and pruning everywhere.....
any suggestions?
