No seriously, its 150mm under a suspended floor. If you have a 'warm' roof then its 50mm above the insulation under the roof covering.
I only know about the floors because I'm also in the process of ... |

I'd wondered about using crushed glass as a non-wicking, non degrading insulator under a shed floor, but haven't found anyone who's tried it yet. |

Not that it will apply, but they are good guidelines and building regs want a 150mm minimum air gap below the floor joists (which should be 6x2 ish at that span). Battens at the bottom of the joists a ... |

Got a mix of 2, 4 and 5W LED, lighting the whole house and never had any flicker. They're all GU10. The only ones I've had trouble with are the newer SMD ones, which were as hot as the sun.

The stove and flue went through a few incarnations. There's an old chimonea at the bottom of that, surrounded by bricks and cob for thermal mass; and a twinwall flue.
I overestimated the insulative p ... |

Perfect then - always best to use what is successful locally. No idea if you can re-use the cob. I would put some on a plastic tarp, wet it and work it a bit and see what you end up with. Maybe it'd n ... |

Yep, free is good. We did one wall in lime-hemp which was left over from a job, and then made the mud plaster because we didn't want to spend money on more lime (although it was easier to work with).

I've seen people make woven hazel or willow wall panels, and use them to apply their plaster to. We made a fairly successful one using -
clay soil / sand / chopped straw / dung / bit of horse hair. I ... |

Hi MikeM - we built a little one that is about 16 feet across, and is used as a meeting hut. The size was limited by the trees we had available (larch) and it is still surprising how much you need. As ... |

I wasn't sure about the Stanley because it is a multi fuel, and so (I assumed) not as efficient on wood. Sounds like it works well though.

Ta. The iron heart is nice looking but has nowhere near the output we'd like, being between the Doric and the w35.

We have indoor and outdoor separating compost loos, and to date no one has had a problem with them. If we've a lot of visitors due, we make sure they aren't too full, as that might put people off.
