Hi Jema.......20 years gardening self employed, now retired, enjoyed
evry minute, learning to cope, making my own decisions, enjoying the customers.
Previous to that 30 years working for someone else, auditing, mind boggingly ( is there such a word) BORING, occasionally relieved by finding a fiddle.
Good fortune to anyone working for themselves.

Always

Since leaving agricultural college in 1994 we are in the fortunate posistion of never having been employed (self employed contracts initially).

Doubly lucky in that we have not had to downsize as we never went up in the first place - crawling along in first gear seems to suit us (financiallt bottom gear that is - time is exceedingly precious).

Since April 1994 and I can't imagine ever being able to go back to work for a health authority again
The thing that shocks me is not the time that I have been self-employed but the fact that I've been doing the same job (physiotherapy) for 27 years now

There doesn't seem to be such a thing as a job for life now and youngsters seem to stick with a job for 2-3 years and then move on.

5 years nearly - and the business has evolved and changed beyond recognition in that time. All apart from the name.

Can I mention the business on here?

One of the premises this site was started on was that people should be allowed, well more to the point positively cajoled into pushing their businesses

Completely, since about 1999/2000, can't remember exactly. I wouldn't want to work for anyone else again. I like being my own boss!

Since Easter 1999 when a b***** boss made my life hell. OH insisted I left for the sanity of both of us, suggested I took some time off and could then start looking for a job. As it turned out many of the schools I had previously worked with contined to employ me directly rather than through my old job so self-employed I became. Now (plus 2 kids) we have moved to France to start our new venture - creating and running eco-gites. Have a look at www.eco-gites.eu if you are interested
