The .17HMR was designed as a small vermin destroyer (hence the polycarbonate nosler ballistic tip), which tends to blow the quarry apart, as Lloyd says - quick death, but not much use for the pot.

Deerhunter, what I actually said was that the precision of the rifle is such that at ranges from 50 to 200 metres, without a fresh zero, one can kill a rabbit in ambient conditions, with a head shot that removes the head. The implication of my comment is that the rest of the body is intact,

What regiment by the way?

Seems to be very new and GMK don't have it on their site. The best link to a pic I can find is:

I saw the quad in the BASC magazine too.

Can any of you rifle experts tell me if accuracy will be affected by having inter-changeable barrels. From the pic i cannot see how the barrels lock in place, is it some form of female thread on the barrels?

All new to me but from the BASC pic it looks like they are threaded and the ad says accuracy is unaffected.

Just opened my BASC mag and it says the rifle will arrive in the UK in May.

Assuming the police would be happy to grant a FAC with, say 22WMR, would there be any problems with such a rifle?

I don't think Sako do LH bolt actions on their .22s.

The Police are mainly concerned that 1) you have a good reason for the calibre 2) That you have somewhere suitable to use it and 3) That you're not a raving loony or ex convict.

Doubt the L/H version is available though
