They actually look too small, mostly very long legs and bones at the moment. Give them a year and they'll be well worth eating.

You know the answer, they're very tasty and don't take up much freezer space. I've only seen roe and red deer about so far.

Any truth to the rumour that they're a real pain to skin/butcher?

Here's a much better pic taken a few weeks ago. When I first found them there were two but I've only seen a single one over the last couple of weeks until today when I almost stumbled over two rapidly growing kids.

They're a little more fiddly than a fully grown deer to skin, but well worth the extra effort.

I've skinned and butchered a fair few Red calves, and the meat is fantastic, tender and tasty. They were all a few months older than those little ones of course, but the hunter definitely made a mistake shooting Bambi's mum, Bambi would have been much tastier!

I am hoping that you are just seeing them separated for security and that they are both growing well.

Looks like they have both grown up. That's the doe in the middle, grown up kids either side.
