I think one was seen in our wood once, but many years ago, and we have never seen one.

The leaves on the beech in the next wood are quite well out now. I took some people round parts of our wood yesterday and the early purple orchids are just starting to come out, the bluebells and wood anemones are out together, which makes an interesting scent, especially as there is a field of oil seed rape nearby too. The pigeons must still be causing trouble on the osr, as the gas guns are still going. Saw a roe buck as I was waiting for our group and heard a greater spotted woodpecker. Common violets and early violets are both in flower. Found one Solomon's seal in flower bud, but the rest were just coming up with leaves.

Any ideas on these?

The butterfly/moth was a bit darker than shown and the light spots showed as more vivid

Husband was sifting some soil and shingle yesterday and had a pair of robins round him all the time picking out titbits. Must be a pair as they were both there and usually one will see the other off.

I had to shoo a Violet Carpenter Bee out the house 3 times yesterday. They're rather intimidating!

We are at the stage of queen wasps coming in through the bedroom window, but luckily after a bit of a wander round they go out again. In the woods the queen bumble bees are looking for nest sites and we have to shoo them out of where we don't want them. Not sure of the ones we see most of but they are large, furry and have black and yellow with a white backside. Must look them up.

We have some of the bumblebees with the white bottoms. They love the rosemary flowers in the garden. I have noticed that the wasps have started appearing too..

Well done Gz. I was going to suggest it wasn't a bee, but as I had no idea what it was didn't suggest anything.

Have seen a roe buck with a pretty good set of antlers in the wood lately. Sometimes see up to 3 roe deer together, and managed to stalk one for a short distance last week, but then I moved when it must have been watching and it went off.

The blue tit has been around both the bedroom and kitchen window, which is under it, quite a lot, but not tapping on the glass now. Think they have a nest nearby. We have a bird box wedged in the creeper on the back wall, so they could be in there.

The cowslips are coming out in the lawn now, and have seen a lot on banks over the last week or two. The bluebells are in full flower now too.
