We are now a week in and things are steady. I took over two days for whatever was going on to stop and now the accesses to the sight seem a lot more legitimate. However since we saw that that changes practically in an instant, I see no point yet in turning the access test off.

Nope - when not allowed to post I just end up at the login page again. Sort of thrown out with no symptoms.
